Andrea headed a successful architectural practice and could see an opportunity to broaden the services the firm offered by adding structural engineering capability. The commercial opportunity was clear, but she had limited experience of establishing and managing that discipline.

Through ExEx she found Marcus, an experienced structural engineer who no longer wanted a full-time executive role but was happy to provide mentoring and practical guidance.

Marcus helped Andrea assess the opportunity, identify the right skills, establish appropriate procedures and recruit the people needed to build the new service. His involvement reduced the risk of entering an unfamiliar area while allowing Andrea and her team to retain control of the development.
