VCS 004 — The Remote Facilities Manager

The London based Managing Agents for a shopping centre in Inverness needed experienced facilities-management support, but the requirement did not justify employing a Facilities Manager on a full-time basis.

Through ExEx they identified an experienced facilities professional who was available for a part-time engagement. Much of the management information, contractor review, compliance monitoring and forward planning could be undertaken remotely, supported by scheduled visits when a physical presence was necessary.

The arrangement gave the centre access to senior-level judgement without creating an unnecessary full-time post. It also gave the Expertise Partner a worthwhile professional role that produced useful additional income and could be fitted around other commitments.

ExEx Outcome: The organisation bought the level of experience it required rather than a conventional job description, while an experienced professional was able to remain economically active on flexible terms.
