VCS 016 From Squadron Leader to Operations Adviser

Mark left the RAF in his early fifties after a career involving aircraft operations, logistics, personnel and the coordination of complex activities where reliability and timing were critical.

He wasn't looking for another full-time career but wanted to remain professionally active.

A growing engineering company was struggling with its field-service operation. Engineers, vehicles, equipment and replacement parts were frequently arriving at different times, causing delays and dissatisfied customers.

Through ExEx, the company found Mark. He had never worked in commercial field service — but he had spent years solving considerably more complicated versions of essentially the same problem.

Mark reviewed the operation, introduced straightforward planning and reporting procedures and helped management reorganise responsibilities.

Within months, delays reduced substantially. Mark subsequently remained available to the company for a few days each month.

The job was new to Mark. The problem wasn't.
