VCS 017 Experience Beyond the Uniform

Sarah retired from the Police in her early fifties after more than thirty years, latterly managing investigations involving fraud and vulnerable people.

She wanted greater control over her time and had no wish to begin another conventional career.

A regional housing organisation needed help reviewing the way suspected tenancy fraud and safeguarding concerns were identified, recorded and escalated. It did not need another permanent employee; it needed someone who understood investigation, evidence, interviewing, confidentiality and proportionate decision-making.

Through ExEx it found Sarah.

She reviewed existing procedures, trained frontline managers and helped establish a clearer process for handling difficult cases. The initial project led to occasional training and advisory assignments with other organisations.

Sarah had retired from the Police. She hadn't retired her expertise.
